Besides his educational and political background, there are a few lesser known captivating facts about Obama.


One captivating fact about Obama is that other than being black he’s also not entirely American. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to Barrack Obama senior a Kenyan and Stanley Dunham from Hawaii on August 4th, 1961 and spent most of his early life in Indonesia with his mother and stepfather after his father returned to Kenya. Obama then came back to Honolulu in 1971 to live with his grandparents where he continued to attend school before later moving on to study Law at Harvard University.


Adding to the list, is the fact that he has written a book Dreams From My Father. This book accounts his early life as well as challenges that he faced due to his racial background and the forces that depict his attempt to balance his ancestry from his father’s African origin in a small village in Kenya to his American heartland. The book has gone on to claim great praise as the inspiring story of humble beginnings in a racially discriminating society to the rise to power of the world’s most powerful nation.

Just a short while after his inauguration to the presidency in 2009, Obama was awarded the coveted Nobel Peace Prize for his extraordinary efforts in fostering international diplomacy and understanding between the people. The Nobel committee cited this as a new dawn in international relations spearheaded by Obama, who referred to the Award as a 'profound and humbling experience’. Outside his humanitarian efforts, he also received a Grammy Award for’ Best Spoken Word Album’ based on his book Dreams From My Father.


Obama’s style of leadership was another amazing fact about him. His policies that were based on creating and maintaining social and economic relations have to a great extent promoted growth in the U.S. both economically and socially. He was enthusiastic in his efforts to combat terror with the death of Osama Bin Laden, one of the most wanted terrorists in the world, being credited to his leadership.


How Obama met his wife Michelle Obama is another interesting thing about him. While pursuing a degree in Law at Harvard University, Obama met Michelle at a time when there were very few African Americans at the law firms. They later got married in 1992 and had two daughters Malia and Sasha, who are frequently seen accompanying their parents on trips and vacations.
